Alicia's Bible Blog
2 Peter 1:12-15. Peter is explaining why he is writing - he intends to always remind us of "these things" (the faith, the teachings, and his letters). He knows we already know them and are established in the truth, but he thinks it right, while he is still "in this body," to "arouse you by way of reminder." He knows that the "putting off" of his body will be soon, and he wants us to be able to recall all these things at any time.
This is exactly why I started journaling - not for others (at least not at first), but just for myself - to be able to recall these things at any time. I would pray and think and have lots of deep thoughts and then I would get on with my day, sure that I "knew these things," but later when trying to precisely remember the thought processes and conclusions that I had come to, they would often escape me. Once I started writing my thoughts down (and making myself available to the Holy Spirit to guide me to what he wanted me to think about), my thoughts stayed with me throughout the day. Plus I am now able to go back and reread them whenever I am wondering what I was thinking!
It is not that I was not "established in the truth," I have been, by my baptism, my education, and the guidance and of my parents, teachers, and priests, but it is to "arouse me by way of reminder" of all of the thoughts that have been coming to me. They have been many and they are building on each other telling me a story that I now feel called to share through this blog. Without my journal, this would never have formed into what I see now is a kind of revelation. Maybe it is just meant for me for the most part, and that is fine, but I am certain that some of my entries are meant for others as well, I have seen this be so. So here I am, like Peter, seeing to it that even after my departure "you may be able for all time to recall these things."
