Luke 24:4-11. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and several other women went to Jesus' tomb to properly prepare his body with spices and ointments on the day after the Sabbath. When they got there, they could not find the body. They were perplexed when suddenly two dazzling men stood before them and said "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise." When the women heard this they remembered and they returned to the apostles and told them everything, but to the apostles "these words seemed ... an idle tale, and they did not believe them."

Why is it so hard for us to hear and remember the truth? So often I think that if I have said something to someone once, then they know it and they understand. This comes back to bite me all the time! I think "They know how I feel about this topic, because I have mentioned it to them in the past, so why are they not acting like they know? " It is because they don't remember, or they didn't hear me properly, or if they did it did not make an impression on them, or they did not understand and so they dismissed it.

Jesus told his disciples the truth, always, and he tried to prepare them for what was coming, but even when the thing he was preparing them for happened, the women did not even remember his words. They had to be reminded by angels! Then the light-bulb went on, and the women ran back to the apostles who, when hearing the story, did not believe them!

We are so blind and so deaf! We have eyes but we do not see, we have ears but we do not hear! We need to experience everything for ourselves - we are all Doubting Thomas! There is, however, still merit in speaking the word. It is still important to speak the truth, even if people won't listen. Having at least heard it, when the time comes that they need to remember it, God will remind them. If we never speak it, then they will not have heard it to remember it. So keep speaking the truth!
