Ezekiel 33:17. "Yet your people say, 'The way of the Lord is not just'; when it is their own way that is not just."

This is the passage in which God is saying He has appointed Ezekiel as a watchman for Israel, and woe to him if he does not warn the people to turn from their evil ways and back to God. The people (who God refers to as your people, speaking to Ezekiel, just like when one of our kids is in trouble, he's the other spouse's child!) are clearly so far gone, much like our society today, that they cannot determine good from evil, right from wrong. They think that it is God who is being unjust, because they have allowed themselves to become convinced their wicked ways are, in fact, just - something I just mentioned yesterday is true for many evil things today!

This level of confusion and prideful clinging to what is clearly wrong are sure signs of the devil's influence. He takes God's truth and twists it, ever so slightly at first, so that it seems right and good to our clouded minds, then he continues twisting until we are in knots. One example - God's truth is that we are to love one another, but the devil has convinced us that loving someone means supporting them and affirming them even when they are in a state of sin, or when they want to do something very harmful to themselves, and never warning them about it. This is the exact opposite of what God is asking Ezekiel to do here, and asks us to do. Once the devil has established in our minds that we are weighing two morally equivalent choices (which we are not), then he adds more and more weight to his side of the scale and blinds us more and more to the truth in the other side. It is what he always does, and we can see the results of it everywhere these days. For one very recent example, look at the Ivy League presidents' testimony before Congress last week - they have been in their echo chamber so long (where they are blinded to the truth), they cannot see that a call for genocide against any group is always evil, it does not matter which group is being targeted or what the context is. They have allowed themselves to perceive a moral equivalence where there is not one.

God has established watchmen for us, He always does, just like he gave Ezekiel to his people in their time. They are out there, speaking truth and trying to call us back - (see Billboard Chris for one example, but there are many, many more). It is up to us to break the spirit of moral equivalence between good and evil we've allowed ourselves to be drawn into and listen to them, rather than reacting to them as if they are the moral monsters (which is also the influence of the devil). God tells us the truth, and gives us many warnings when we go astray, but our fate is ultimately in our hands - the devil can't make us do anything.
