Psalm 18:48 "[The Lord lives] who delivered me from my enemies; yea, thou didst exalt me above my adversaries; thou didst deliver me from men of violence."

David wrote this psalm to thank God for delivering him from Saul, a very obvious enemy. Most of us do not have enemies like that, we don't, hopefully, have a particular person who is hell-bent on destroying us. Nor we do have armies set against us as David did. But we do have enemies, the most troubling among them being the devil and his minions. They are most definitely hell-bent on destroying us, and will use any means necessary to do so, very often other people.

The devil is slyer than Saul, or any human adversary. He knows how to make bad things seem good, how to lure us into choosing our own destruction without us even noticing until we are very far gone. When we do realize it, though, God is right there, ready to do the same thing for us that he did for David. He will deliver us from all evil.

We should also remember that we don't know the times that God has proactively protected us from our enemies. I'm quite certain there are many times I have been delivered from enemies I didn't even realize were threatening me.

We can, like David, can thank and praise God for delivering us from our enemies. We might not have Saul chasing us around trying to kill us, but there is a malevolent being who would like to see us lost for all eternity. God is constantly providing us protection, however. He even came into this world and took that enemy on directly, so that we can be delivered from the power of evil and He can exalt us above our adversaries.
