Exodus 16:9-12. Moses tells Aaron to tell the people to gather before the Lord, who has heard their murmurings. As Aaron speaks to them, they look out to the wilderness and see the glory of the Lord appear in a cloud. And the Lord says to Moses "I have heard the murmurings of the people of Israel." God promises that at twilight they shall eat flesh, and in the morning they will be filled with bread. And they will know that he is the Lord.

This takes place after the people come to the Wilderness of Sin and complain to Moses that they would have preferred dying in Egypt to dying in the wilderness from hunger, and after this message God begins feeding his people daily with manna in the desert throughout their whole time of wandering. Eventually, they will end up complaining about that, too, but that is another story!

We are all in the Wilderness of Sin, uncertain about so many things. Maybe we are worried about where our next meal will come from, like the Israelites, or maybe we are worried about finances, or relationships, or lost children, or deceased loved ones, or medical issues, the list is endless. We all have something that we mutter to God about while we traverse the wilderness of life.

Often God answers us in a way that is truly miraculous, but also just enough to get us through. It might not be what we truly wish for or would have chosen, but it will keep us going until God gets us where He is taking us. Only there, in the Promised Land, will we be lavished with all the gifts he wants to give us, because only after we have trekked through the wilderness, trusting Him to provide for us, will we be truly ready to receive them.
