Isaiah 60:19-22. Isaiah describes what we look forward to. The sun will no longer be our light by day, nor the moon by night, instead God shall be our everlasting light. Our days of mourning will end. All people will be righteous and shall possess the land forever, including the shoot of God's planting, the work of his hands, so that God will be glorified. The least among us will become a mighty nation. "I am the Lord; in its time I will hasten it."

I think we have made things far too complex and confusing and in doing so we have forgotten that this is all his creation. We take the "shoots of his planting", the work of his hands, and we commodify them, then we create layer upon layer of complexity that ends up separating all people, but especially the poor who cannot afford to learn to navigate the complexity, from the good things that God has created for all of us. I think that God is in the process of slowly destroying the complexity that divides his people from him. It will be painful for us because our entire society is built on it, but the tremendous suffering of the powerless and weak has become so great that he must act.

We have even commodified human life - abortion is a huge for-profit business; the value of life is weighed against the cost to society of that life; and even the body parts that abortion "produces" (ugh) are sold for even more profit, then used to make products that we are being forced to take. It is so clear that this is evil and cannot go on, and that it will not go on - it is being changed as we speak.

I see this passage as a description of the world once proper order has been restored. We will all be righteous, we will all see by the light of God and therefore our mourning will be over. The least among us will be great, but that will in no way diminish any other of us. We will see that the earth's products, and indeed all of creation, are for all of us. There is enough and more to sustain every person God creates if we just trust him and follow him in exercising our dominion over it all. I am hoping that this time has come, or is coming very soon. I hope and pray that he hastens it, because we are in very dire straits!
