Joshua 1:14-15. "[A]ll the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brethren and shall help them, until the Lord gives rest to your brethren as well as to you, and they also take possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving them; then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it“. Joshua is preparing the Reubenites, Gadites, and one-half of the tribe of Manasseh, who are already settled on the land the Lord has allotted to them, to cross the Jordan with the rest of the tribes and secure their allotted land as well. This will mean going to battle against the current occupants of the land, so Joshua is telling the men of valor from the settled tribes to be armed and ready for war.
We can often get comfortable when we are settled where God has placed us, and tend to forget about our brothers and sisters who are not there yet, and might still be facing mighty battles. They need our help to get to the place God wants them to be. Just because we reached our place first doesn't mean we get to stop and leave them to their battles on their own. We must "pass over armed” before our brethren and help them. Once they are secure, we can return to our own security. We are all in this together!
