Deuteronomy 33:27 "The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you, and said Destroy." So says Moses toward the end of his blessing of Israel before his death.

Moses is saying Israel will actually be living in God, with His arms beneath them to catch them if they fall from that high dwelling place. I find this language incredibly comforting; a reminder that this is not our home, as wonderful as it may be (because God made it that way for us).

Not only that, though, but no matter where we are, no matter how good or bad our circumstances may be, if we are His, we are dwelling in Him, not in that particular place or circumstance. None of the good nor the bad of this world defines where we actually dwell. We are, at all times, in Him, with His arms beneath us lest we fall. This is how we can find perfect peace even in the worst of circumstances, by remembering that we are in Him, not in the circumstance, and He is all good and always in complete control.

In Heaven, this will be a lot more clear. All the bad, and even the distorted good, will fall away and we will see the perfect good that was always our home. In the meantime, though, we know we are in Him no matter where we are or what we are experiencing. We may be tempted to leave that place, especially when things are not going well and we do not understand why. But even then, His arms are stretched out beneath us to break our fall. We have to really fight God to leave Him, hopefully not many of us will choose to do that!
