Isaiah 52:2 "Shake yourself from the dust, arise, O captive Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion."
This is a fitting verse for Holy Thursday, since Jesus is about to do the very thing that will save us from our captivity, the thing that should cause us to shake off the dust and loose our bonds of captivity.
So many people remain in the dust, and have grown accustomed to their bonds. They don't look up, they trudge along kind of hoping something will change, but kind of not as well. They do not see that their freedom has already been won. But the Easter Triduum reminds us our Savior has come, He has allowed Himself to be thrown in the dust and bound in chains in order to free us from that fate, He has conquered our captor.
Our salvation has been won! So let's shake off the dust and arise. We have been saved! We are about to be brought into the Kingdom as sons and daughters of the King, never again to be bound as captives unless that is what we choose.
