Psalm 135:14 "For the Lord will vindicate his people, and have compassion on his servants."
We cannot vindicate ourselves. We are in the thick of it, we can't see the full story, and we often contribute to the problem. However, we do know how the story ends. We know that evil does not win, and we also know we have to go through suffering to get to the vindication, just like Christ did. But even knowing that, the battle can feel un-winnable sometimes. It can be so hard, even between skirmishes, when life can feel like a plod through the muck of it all, to cling to what we know, and not give in or go under.
That is why assurances like this are sprinkled throughout the Bible, to remind us that we will be vindicated, all we have to do is remain His servants. Keep plodding when it feels like a plod, there is hope ahead. Meanwhile, learn the lessons of the plod. I find that when I am feeling this way, I can usually find something in me that's not quite right. Maybe I'm forgetting the hope, or not fully trusting the One who gives it. Or maybe, as Dashboard Confessional says, I've been selfish, I've been wrong. There's hope in realizing that, and bringing it to the One who will nonetheless forgive and vindicate me.
