Deuteronomy 26:1-2 “When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance, and have taken possession of it, and live in it, you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place which the Lord your God will choose, to make his name to dwell there."

On this day of prayer for the protection of the unborn, it strikes me how ungrateful we are for God's most precious gifts. We should want to give Him our first fruits; we should recognize the value of everything He has given us and want to offer the best of it back to Him in thanksgiving. Instead, we offer our unborn children to the gods of our own pride, convenience, or indifference.

How I wish we could get back to a real appreciation for the gift of life. How I wish the world would praise God for everything He has blessed us with. How I pray that He is there, snatching every first fruit of life we so casually dispose of and holding them to His heart, giving them all the love they never received.
