2 Chronicles 3:1 "Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite."

I wonder if Ornan or any of his four sons were still alive when Solomon built the Temple on the site of their former threshing floor. They must have known it was a special place, since David had come to them (with an angel!), bought it from Ornan (who offered to give it to David, but David insisted on paying the full price), and built an altar there. (1 Chronicles 21:20-26). But to see the astounding Temple of Solomon rise on the site of their former threshing floor must have been more than humbling!

God entrusts us with things that might seem ordinary to us, but that are extraordinary to Him. All of Creation, really, is a testament to God's awesome power and love. There are parts of it that He has given to me, for now at least, and wants me to use and/or care for in accordance with His Will. Even if it is just doing my daily duties for my household, my job, and my family, if I am doing them in His Will, they are a form of prayer and praise to Him, and I am keeping them ready for Him, should He have another use for them.

I can't hold on to any of these things too tightly. If God calls them to His service, as He did with Ornan's threshing floor, I have to let them go (which is sometimes very difficult for me to do!). I may not see right away why He wanted them, but someday I might. Who knows, I may even see something akin to His Temple being built on what was my former threshing floor! But even if I don't, I can be grateful for the time He gave them over to my care, and trust that He will put them to their highest and best use.
