Jeremiah 10:6 "There is none like thee, O Lord; thou art great, and thy name is great in might."

I was thinking this morning about the people I know who are, for the most part, loving and kind people, or who are at least trying to be, yet they have turned away from God. They don't see God as the source of love, kindness, and goodness, and they are therefore basing their concept of those things on what the culture is telling them (which is often very different from the truth). Some of these people have been lifelong friends and I don't know if it is because they have changed or I have (it's probably both!), but I have a difficult time relating to them anymore. We have grown so far apart in thought and belief that conversations feel awkward, I feel like I'm holding back on fully participating, in saying what I truly believe, and even in offering my advice, because I fear that I will offend them (and I have offended them when I have tried!). We just seem to be living in different worlds, with no common ground on which to meet to keep the relationship going.

I think sometimes of asking them what they do believe in, whether they think there is a force greater than us at work in the world, or if it is just us? If it is just us, where do they get this desire to be good and kind from? I'm not sure that such a conversation would get anywhere, and I am getting to the point of just leaving them in God's hands. But I do think that if they could just objectively think about it for a little while, they would come to realize that there must be something greater than us.

That is why I'm thinking of this when I read Jeremiah's proclamation that there is none like God. It is when we come to the realization that there has to be something greater that the news of who God is becomes to us such Good News. Once we humble ourselves (or the world humbles us) enough to admit there must be greater forces at work, we are ready to begin a relationship with God - the source of everything good who loves us so much He sent His Son to die for us so we can be with Him in eternity!! How incredible is that?!

There truly is none like God! He is great and mighty, the source of all love and goodness, who cares for all of His Creation, including each one of us as if we were the only person He ever created. This wonderful knowledge of God is what Jeremiah is proclaiming and is what I wish I could talk about with the people in my life who do not believe in Him. There is none like our God, He is great and mighty. I know that He is working in all of our lives, and I hope and trust that eventually all will come to see this and be as overjoyed as Jeremiah was. Then we will once again have common ground on which to build our relationships.
