Baruch 6:53-59. Idols and false gods cannot set up a king, or give rain, or deliver someone who is wronged. They have no power at all, "they are like crows between heaven and earth." When fire breaks out in their temples, their priests will flee and they will be burnt in two. They offer no resistance to kings or any enemies. "Why then must anyone admit or think that they are gods?" They cannot save themselves from robbers. They will be stripped of their gold and silver as they stand defenseless. It would be better for them to be utensils that serve a need, or a door that protects a house's contents, or a pillar holding up a palace, at least then they would have some use.

God created everything, so how frustrating it must be when we take something of His creation and make it into a god itself. And how futile for us! Nothing else but God can elevate kings or send rain or save us in any way, but we ignore Him while we lavish our time, money, and attention on these false hopes. We do this all the time!

I am thinking while reading this about how the COVID vaccines really are a false god. We know now that they are useless, yet people have sacrificed family and loved ones over them, even excusing the death of loved ones from vaccine reactions as being necessary for the greater good offered by these useless vaccines! There was no greater good, only death! This is what all idols bring. We have poured our money, time, and attention into these vaccines, honestly to the point of obsession, yet they cannot save us. They are only causing division, injury, death, and the accumulation of great wealth and power in the hands of people who do not have the greater good in mind.

The vaccines are just one of our many idols today, and interest in them does seem to be fading as people realize their ineffectiveness. But new idols crop up every day, even theough we can look around us and see all the damage that has occurred (that always occurs!) when we worship false gods.
