Ezekiel 1:10-12. Ezekiel is describing the four living creatures he saw appear with a cloud of fire. They each have four faces, and here he describes those. In the front they have the face of a man, on the right side the face of a lion, on the left side the face of an ox, and in the back they each have the face of an eagle. Two of their four wings were spread out, touching the wings of another. The other two wings were covering their bodies. And they moved straight in any direction the spirit led them, without turning as they went.
Focusing on the faces of these creatures, I note that each of the four faces is that of a strong creature - a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. There are no weak creatures here, and there are no water creatures. I think this is meant to show the power of these creatures, power that is exercised over the lands of the earth.
Whatever the task given to these creatures by the spirit (and they move as the spirit tells them, without exception), they are given the authority and the power to do it. They do not dsitract from or diminish God's power, for their faces are all of creatures created by God. These are creatures, not gods themselves, but they are imbued with authority from God himself and formed in a way to show that authority to all who encounter them.
