Acts 13:33-41. Paul concludes his testimony to the Jews in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia by quoting from the psalms and prophets to further identify Jesus and to warn against disbelief. With regard to Jesus, he quotes from the psalms: "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee." "I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David." And "Thou will not let thy Holy One see corruption." David died and was buried, he has seen corruption, but Jesus died and was raised from the dead. He shall never see corruption, as the psalm foretold. Therefore, Paul says, let it be known that through Jesus, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed and by Him, "everyone that believes is freed from everything which you could not be freed by the law of Moses." Beware, then, Paul warns, of falling into disbelief as the prophets foretold, by scoffing and wondering when God does a deed in your days, a deed you won't believe, even if someone tells it to you.

The law of Moses is true and right, but it was a precursor to Christ, a way of maintaining proper life and worship, while also getting us ready for Jesus' life, teachings, and death. Jesus made very clear that He did not come to abolish Mosaic law, but to fulfill it. That fulfillment is more than anyone could hope for a - forgiveness of sins! Divine Mercy! The law of Moses sets forth the way we are to live and worship to remain in God's will. Before Jesus, forgiveness of sins was obtained through sacrifice and return to right order. The sacrifices made for forgiveness were a placeholder for Jesus' sacrifice. They would have meant nothing if Jesus had not ultimately come as the Lamb of God and allowed His own sacrifice. When He died on the Cross, redemption for all of mankind, in all ages, was accomplished - all of those  Mosaic sacrifices were fulfilled as attaining forgiveness. As Paul states here, because Jesus Christ died for us, He has given all of us that gift. He has given all believers freedom from everything the law of Moses could not free us from - our sin.

The law of Moses still stands - it is still the law that brings order and right worship, and violations of it are still sinful. If we don't even try to follow the law, believing it no longer applies or that we can do whatever we want and Jesus' death has saved us, then we are not listening to Christ's true teachings, and we are therefore not "believers " to whom the gift of forgiveness has been given.

The law of Moses remains applicable, it just now has been fulfilled by Christ so that believers have been given the gift of forgiveness and freedom. We should beware to neither scoff at this, nor take it for granted, lest we lose that wonderful gift.
