Joshua 18:15-20. Another seemingly boring and inconsequential reading detailing the southern border of the land allotted to the tribe of Benjamin. But nothing in the Bible is inconsequential! So why did God make sure to preserve for all of us for all time the boundaries of each of the tribal lands of Israel? I cannot begin to know fully, I am sure that there are many, many reasons, but today I am thinking that this is a warning against communism and globalism, both of which are threatening to descend on us (if they have not already done so!).
The tribes of Israel are all desecended from twelve brothers, they are a family, with God as their Father. If anyone should live in perfect community it is them. So why such precisely drawn lands and borders separating them all? Because nations are important, and borders are essential! Our relationship with each other in the whole world is as a family, the family of God. But God knows that, due to the Fall, we can never live in perfect unity as He intended. We are corrupted and so we will always eventually go wrong. Nations that begin with the best of intentions and constitutions may last hundreds of years, but eventually some of ther leaders will succumb to the temptation for worldly things, power, and control over their people. Once some do, the rest quickly follow ("This is the way it is done!") and, in time, corruption takes over. When this happens, the people being persecuted must have somewhere to run to. Not everyone will be get out, not everyone can, and many will suffer, but only with clearly defined nations and borders will anyone have some place to which to escape!
So where do we escape from our modern globalist push? Today, the corruption, control, inhumanity to fellow human beings, persecution, and plain evil are everywhere - every country is following the tyrannical, communist playbook while putting on the mask of "community", "we're all in this together," etc. This is one reason why I am so convinced that our current moment is unique. Yes this has happened before in individual nations or groups of nations (look at Nazi Germany and the Axis powers); and yes it has led to worldwide suffering (in that case, Word War II), but never before has every developed nation on Earth been seemingly enthralled to communist tendencies.
This must be what God foresaw when he established tribal borders and lands. If left to themselves as one group, eventually some sector of the Jewish community would become persecuted and have no other safe Jewish land to escape to. I believe that the reason God is allowing this today in a worldwide way is because He is calling us all back to our true home - the Church. It fits in with the messages that I have been getting, and everything that has been happening.
We know that eventually every every knee will bend to him and every nation will serve him, the only just King. The distance from where we are right now to that point seems almost infinite right now, but God knows what he is doing. One by one, slowly at first, but then quickly, people will realize that they have nowhere to escape to but to God and His Church.
In this way, the Church will truly be the one institution that survives until the end of time and sees humanity through the rough seas of history.
