Matthew 9:32-34. As Jesus is leaving town, a dumb demonic is brought to Him and when the demon is cast out, the man speaks. The crowds are amazed, but the Pharisees say that Jesus must be able to cast out demons because He is in league with the prince of demons.

I am becoming more and more convinced that our ailments, especially our mental illnesses, are all, to a greater and lesser extent, due to the influence of evil in the world, that is, the effect of demons. God did not create us to get sick and die, all of that came into the world when we fell, so all of our illnesses are our result of the evil that we let into the world. The demons hate us so much, yet they are so jealous of us. They want to make us suffer, but they also want to possess us. It is like a bipolar, love/hate relationship. When they get in (because in some way we have let them in), they don't want to be weeded out, so they play it pretty low-key for a while. But gradually they get more and more power over us, especially if we don't root them out quickly and instead keep placating the desires they awaken us.

Here, they were able to make a man mute so that he would be unable to ask for the help that he needed. Thank goodness he had friends who brought him to Jesus. And thank goodness that we are lucky enough that Jesus, now in Heaven, is able to be with each of us everywhere and anywhere, whenever we need him to cast out our demons and free our tongues to thank and praise him!
