1 Corinthians 9:3-11. Paul is defending his and Barnabas' rights to a share of the food in the communities in which they preach. He uses examples - "Who serves as a soldier at his own expense?" And he refers to the law of Moses - "You should not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain." This is for the ox, but even more so for humans - one who tends the field is certainly entitled to a share of the harvest.
I have been thinking a lot about priests lately and how much they give up to be our shepherds. I would like to find more ways to show my appreciation for them, and I want to invite them for dinner. Sometimes that feels awkward to me, and I know it would feel awkward to my family. I also wonder if it might feel awkward for them, too? Nott everyone wants to spend time with me and my family believe it or not!
But this is a reminder to do it, or to find ways to support them and feed them and help them so that they are getting a share of the harvest they are helping to grow.
