1 Timothy 6:1-8. Paul tells slaves to abide in Christ's message even in their state in life. "There is great gain in godliness with contentment ... if we have but food and clothing, with these we shall be content."

I was just reading some of Padre Pio's prophecies, and one of them was that in the end times, which he saw coming (and I believe have begun), a poor person will be one "without a candle, without a jug of water and without what is necessary for three months." Paul's letter is preaching contentment even in the suffering of being a slave, by realizing that one's basic needs are being met and taken care of. Padre Pio was telling us that God will take care of our basic needs even as He puts the world through its chastisement, even if our basic needs are just a candle, a jug of water, and three months' rations in order to see us through the difficult times.

If we listened to Paul, we will be prepared to weather the storm that is coming. If we didn't, there is still time to accept Paul's message that even in suffering, we can find godliness in contentment with having our basic needs met.
