1 Samuel 11:10. The men of Jabesh say to Saul "Tomorrow, we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you."

The men of Jabesh are in a very difficult position. They have offered to make peace with the Ammonites who have been besieging them, but the Ammonites have required each man's right eye to be gouged out as a condition of peace. Jabesh has sent to all of Israel for help, and Saul has responded. Filled with the Spirit of God, Saul has promised their deliverance. So the men of Jabesh now promise to give themselves over to Saul, trusting him to do whatever is best with them.

Saul here is filled with the Spirit of God, so he is acting in God's place. When we find ourselves in these terrible dilemmas like the one Jabesh is in, our best option is to reach out in prayer, and to other faithful people, for assistance. Even if we have made advances toward the enemy in our fear or confusion, as Jabesh has, God will always respond to our sincere request for help.

Imagine the relief the people of Jabesh felt when they received a Saul's message promising deliverance! They rightly and willingly surrendered all to Saul, trusting him to do what is right. This is exactly the attitude we must have with God.
