2 Kings 17:38-39. "[Y]ou shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods, but you shall fear the Lord your God, and He will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies."

Fear itself can be an idol, an "other god", and it is one that many have given priority in their hearts right now. The devil is all in, he knows that his time is short, and he is pulling out all the stops. We see horrific, unimaginable evil all around us and it awakens great fear in our hearts. I have felt it myself, it can be overpowering!

But we must remember the covenant our God made with us - He is our God and we are His people. Yes, that covenant was made with the Jews (and look at the evil being done to them! The devil certainly is after God's chosen people!), but Jesus made the new and everlasting covenant with all of us. The promises made to the Jews are now available to all Christians, and our job is to make all the world Christian so that all fall under the protection of God's promises.

When we let fear rule in our hearts, we are giving it priority over God - we are not trusting Him to deliver us from evil. Further, in that fearful state, we cannot help God build His kingdom, we are not effective evangelists if we don't trust the very God we are proclaiming to others. So we must not allow the devil to lead us astray with fear. We must go forth as joyful proclaimers of God's coming Kingdom, trusting Him to deliver us from the hand of our enemies!
