2 Chronicles 1:14-17. Solomon made the kingdom of Israel so rich and so great - he gathered large numbers of chariots and horsemen whom he stationed in chariot cities. He made silver and gold as common as stone. He imported horses and chariots, and sold them to all the surrounding kingdoms.
Even here, at the high point of Solomon's reign, we can see that he is being seduced by worldly power and goods, and is bringing the kingdom along with him. Not only is he enriching the kingdom by importing goods for its use, he's also having Isael act as a middleman, he's importing horses and chariots from Egypt and then turning around and selling them at a higher price to other kingdoms. He's an arms dealer!
At this point, Solomon has yet not yet turned away from God, he is still in God's good graces - in fact, this passage comes immediately after God praises Solomon for asking for wisdom, and promises to give him that and riches and honor besides. But here we can see that Solomon is starting to enrich his kingdom by selling horses and chariots to other kingdoms. Solomon's wisdom should have been enough to keep him from falling into the world's traps. It was not, though, so we, who are not as wise as Solomon, should take this as a warning.
The world is incredibly seductive, and the rewards of a life well lived can easily become idols to which we cling. The Lord's blessings in this world are meant to help us (and for us to help others) as we struggle through this life, and to help us gain the next, they are not things that we need to multiply for our own enrichment.
