2 Corinthians 4:2-6. Writing for himself and Timothy, Paul says they have renounced "disgraceful, underhanded ways." When preaching the Gospel they will not use cunning nor tamper with God's word. They will only commend themselves to every man's conscience by the open statement of truth in the sight of God. If the Gospel that Paul and Timothy preach is veiled, it is only because the ones hearing it are not properly disposed to it, they are perishing. "[T]he God of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ." Paul and Timothy are not preaching their own thoughts, they are not preaching themselves, but rather Jesus Christ as Lord. They are merely servants of those to whom they preach for Jesus' sake. God, who said "Let light shine out of darkness", has shown that light into their hearts so that they have "the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ."

In this cunning and deceptive world, where everything seems to be spin, it is so difficult to hold fast to Paul's standards. We are to reject cunning in preaching the Gospel, and never tamper with God's Word. We are not to use the Gospel to prove our point, only to prove His. We are not to "deceptively edit" Jesus' words.

God showed us who He is in the person of Jesus. We can get to know Him, in fact we must get to know Him. As we do, we will grow in faith and understanding, and His light will shine in our hearts and minds. Then we are to help give this knowledge to others, not for our own sakes, we are not trying to get people to like us or to win an argument by preaching the Gospel, but for Jesus' sake, and for the sake of those hearing us, so that they can have this same joy and comfort in the Gospel that we have.

But boy is this difficult to stick to when seemingly the whole world is using their own interpretation of Christianity to bring people to their side of a political argument or to a new world order. We must resist that temptation. If we have been blessed to have our minds unblinded from the devil's lies, our only goal should be to try to unblind others as well, for their sake and for Christ's.
