Wisdom 1:12-15. Do not invite death into your life by the error of your ways. God did not make death and takes no pleasure in it. God created all things to exist, not to die or be destroyed. "The generative forces of the world are wholesome and there is no destruction or poison in them." The dominion of Hades is the dominion of death, and it is not of the earth. Righteousness is immortal.

Wow, this is so good! It goes back a lot to what I was saying in We're Losing Our Mojo - the generative forces of the world (including procreation) are wholesome and good. Sex is pleasurable because it is a participation in the generative force, and one that God wants us to pursue, but only in the right way, so that the fruits of it (children) will be welcomed, nurtured, taken care of, and have the stability of the family unit, including both a father and a mother, that God wants them to have (which may not be the family unit we want to have, I am sorry to say).

Therefore, God gave us rules for how to participate in his plan for creation, and the basis is marriage between a man and a woman. Since a man and a woman are both necessary for procreation, "male and female he created them" and told them to "be fruitful and muiltiply."  So an indissoluable marriage between a man and a woman, open to children in the procreative act, is the foundation of God's wholesome generative plan. It should not be done otherwise because then something that is part of God's plan is missing, therefore making it less wholesome. It could be that either a mother or a father is missing, or the stability of a committed marriage. Do we always get marriage and family right? Of course not, in fact we rarely do, because we are fallen and sinful. But this is the ideal, this is what we should be pursuing, not some falsification of it.

The family unit is the most foundational building block of society - God knew this because he created it to be so. If we separate sex from the generative force (as we have) then things go wrong (as they are) - we get a whole lot of unwholesome things, including abortion, children who are lost and feel unloved, and unsatisfied and unhappy adults. These are all prevalent today because we have invited death into our lives through the error of our ways. We can see the dominion of Hades all around us, pulling us away from the marvelous real creation of God's into the false, pretend world of error and sin that looks so tempting and nice, but eventually will crumble away and reveal that we are in hell.

So let's stop inviting, and even promoting, error in our world, and start pursuing wholesome things. God's ways are not our ways, and we leave his ways at our peril.
