1 Timothy 6:9-12. Paul warns Timothy about the temptation of wealth. Those who desire to be rich open themselves to ruin and destruction "For the love of money is the root of all evils". Timothy should shun this and "aim at righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness." He should "Fight the good fight of the faith;" making his goal the eternal life to which he was called when he confessed and became Christian.

How hard this is! We are not all tempted by money and the desire to be rich, but we are all tempted by something. There are things, like money, that we all need to survive in this world, but the problem is that often when we get them, especially in abundance, we feel they are the source of our happiness. Then we sacrifice more and more for those things, rather than remembering that they are only gifts - things to be used by us to make the world a better place and see ourselves and others through this journey.

That is why we have to get our priorities straight, as Paul urges Timothy here. We must set our eyes on the promise of eternal life, remembering always that that is our goal. Once we do that, everything else falls into place in its proper order - money, health, family, home, job, friendships, all will be properly ordered towards our eternal salvation.
