Psalm 18:1 "To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love thee, O Lord, my strength."

David acknowledges that he was in the grips of death, but called out to God, and He rescued him. David gives God all the praise and glory for his salvation from his enemies. "I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies", he says (Psalm 18:3).

There have been times when I felt the desperation of dire circumstances, and did not know what to do other than ask God for help. Twice when I did this, help came in the most miraculous of ways. The feelings of wonder, relief, and joy that followed were tremendous, and caused me to praise God as David does here. These times also taught me to rely on God's help in less desperate situations, in everything, in fact.

God's aid is always there, in small things and in great ones. Because of my experience with His help in my big problems, I can now see God's ever-present hand and assistance in even the smallest of things. He sends me things like a chance meeting, or an unexpected message, just when I need them most. He is leading me, always and in everything, but I did not realize it until I had experienced His help in my major crises (for some reason, it took me two to really get the point!). Sometimes I would ask God for help, but not realize that He was giving it. Jim Gaffigan joked once about losing his son at the mall and promising God he would give up Wendy's if he could just find him, but then saying "Oh, there he is, never mind, God! ... Well, we're off to Wendy's." That was me!

David knew his salvation was all from the Lord, and he gave God rightful praise for it. We should do the same. Whether we are saved from big problems or smaller ones, it is always God doing the saving, so we should always be praising Him.
