Zechariah 9:14 "Then the Lord will appear over them, and his arrow go forth like lightning; and the Lord God will sound the trumpet, and march forth in the whirlwinds of the south."

This image of the Lord bringing all His power to bear for his people as they march forth in battle seems incongruous with the image just a few verses earlier of the King coming to His people in triumph "humble and riding on an ass." (Zechariah 9: 9). But I think it just shows how God's power and humility go hand in hand.

Jesus was supremely powerful in His humility and obedience to the Father. It was through His humility, even to the point of an unjust and torturous death, that He gained salvation for us. Only the perfect humility of the Son could accomplish the ultimate defeat of evil. We imperfect humans, though, have to live in this fallen world, continuing the battle, so that as many as possible accept the salvation won for them.

Because Jesus has saved us with His humility, God will manifest all of His power against our enemies. We have been won for God by His Son's humility, He will therefore march with us against all the enemies of good.
