Hosea 8:7 "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads, it shall yield no meal; if it were to yield, aliens would devour it."

When we try to take things into our own hands, arranging everything according to our own plans without consultation with God, we begin to sow the wind. The natural state of the universe would be chaos without God's lovingly imposed order (OK, I know, the universe would not even exist if not for God's loving order, but when that order is removed or shunned by us, we descend into chaos). That chaos is the whirlwind that we reap when we leave God out of our machinations; when we use our God-given talents to create things or arrange events on our own terms. It never ends well. It is, actually, opening ourselves up to the diabolical. When God is missing, the devil happily steps in, and his calling card is chaos.

This whirlwind we reap has unintended consequences, always. It rips the heads off the grain, leaving us in famine. And if any grain is spared from our unintentional destruction, God will make sure it goes to feed the innocent "aliens" who are suffering because of our misguided plans. That is simply justice.

I think we should carefully look at our world right now and think about where we are sowing the wind. Personally, I think wind-sowing is just about everywhere. Amazing leaps of technology, science, and medicine are being made, but I don't see God being consulted for any of them. In fact, I see Him being actively pushed out in many cases.

Our whirlwind is waiting in the wings, I believe. In fact, I think we may be feeling the beginnings of it already.
