Psalm 37:12-22. David laments that those who seek to hurt him lay snares and speak of ruin, they are all treacherous. But he is like a deaf man, he does not hear them, and he does not open his mouth to respond or rebuke. He waits, instead, for the Lord who will answer them. The only thing David asks for is that they not rejoice over him, those who boast against him when his foot slips. He is ready to fall, he is in constant pain. He is sorry for his sins and he confesses them; he does not want his enemies who hate him wrongfully to rejoice when he errs. He says they are his enemies because he is following after the good.
Before I opened the Bible for my reading this morning, I asked the Holy Spirit how long this suffering will go on and to please spare my children from it getting much worse. In some ways, I think that is why I got this reading. We all have to suffer right now. In addition, I, like David, have to continue suffering the jabs and insults I keep getting when I try to speak the truth and just pray for the people who are giving them to me, it is not entirely their fault that they have been so brainwashed that they see me as their enemy.
I also have to be ready to fall, I think we are all going to fall, my children included. We all are sinners, and there is a lot of sin that needs to be corrected right now. I have to keep my mouth shut and return evil with good to the best of my ability. God will answer my enemies. When we fall, how much we suffer will depend on how we acted towards our enemies. Will they gloat over us? They will if we returned their insults with insults of our own.
As for the timing of when God will answer our prayers and relieve this suffering, only He knows that. For now, we just must keep behaving the way He wants us to, and praying for our enemies.
