2 Chronicles 30:2-3. King Hezekiah, the princes, and the assembly in Jerusalem, have resolved to "keep the passover in the second month - for they could not keep it in its time because the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, nor had the people assembled in Jerusalem."

Hezekiah took the throne in Jerusalem after the reign of his father, Ahaz, who had been a very unfaithful king. Ahaz had shut up the house of the Lord and had cut its vessels into pieces; he had erected altars to false gods in every city and had provoked the Lord's anger. So when Hezekiah became king, the spiritual life of the people was in disarray, and he could not celebrate Passover at its proper time. Rather than putting it off entirely, however, Hezekiah acted quickly to enable Passover to be celebrated as soon as possible, even if not in its proper month, by calling all the people back to Jerusalem, and telling the priests to sanctify themselves.

The rituals, feasts, and celebrations that God gives us are so vital to our spiritual well-being. Hezekiah, being a good man, and a good leader, knew this, and so focused his energy helping the people regain their rituals. If we are in a position to help people in our lives get back to ritual, we should try to do so. If we have fallen away from the sacraments, rituals, and feasts of the Church ourselves, we should get back to them. They nourish us and are essential for our well-being. Even if we are late coming back, it will be well worth it!
