Song of Solomon 2:7. "I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or the hinds of the field, that you stir not up nor awaken love until it please."

This is the bride speaking, the one who has already found the Lord's love. She is warning us to wait until the time is right; to be patient, the Lord will reveal His love to each of us when the time is right.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows when we are fully ready to accept His tremendous love. We all have the longing for that love in us, and a big part of our problem is that we try to "awaken love" before it is time - we seek it in all the wrong places - in others, in food and drink, in sex, and in all the myriad other things we try to use to quiet our "restless hearts." The bride here is telling us to be still, to wait, to abide.

When we do our daily duties with love of God and neighbor in our hearts, that grows our love and prepares us to be ready for the immense outpouring of God's love that He wants to give us, but we cannot receive until we are ready.
