Colossians 1:13-14. "He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Just yesterday I wrote about how we are born belonging to Satan, to the "dominion of darkness," but we are reclaimed by God through baptism, and thus transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son. (Side note: it is so cool the way God often gives me related readings, it is like He is reinforcing a point or, sometimes, trying to get a message through my thick skull!)

While we are, right now, in this world, we are not of it. We are subject to the sufferings of the dominion of darkness, but not forever. We have been transferred to the dominion of the King of the universe, the all-good, all holy-King who died to save us and bring us into His kingdom. Even when we fall into sin, and thus transfer ourselves back into the kingdom of darkness, we have a way out: reconciliation with God through repentance and atonement.

As long as we are alive, we can get back into the kingdom of the Son through the forgiveness of sins. When we remember this, and live this way, the darkness loses its power over us. We experience it, but we do not succumb, because our King is protecting us, and we know the dominion of darkness will end. The dominion that will last forever is that of the Son, the kingdom we are a part of through His grace and love.
