Mark 7:37 "And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, 'He has done all things well; he even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.'"

 

Have you ever been astonished beyond measure at what Jesus has done? Maybe it was a personal miracle, something He has worked in your life in some miraculous way, or maybe it was from contemplating the Gospels, especially His Passion and Death, and being overwhelmed by His love. In either case, the astonishment leads to a feeling of wonder - how is it possible that the Creator of the universe loves us this much?

 

Jesus does all things well, even to the point of dying in obedience to the Father's will, and He does it all for us. It truly is astonishing! If we could just stay there, hang on to that feeling, life would be so much easier. What is there to worry about when Jesus loves us? Even suffering is just a participation in His love, a gift meant to help us get to the Father's house.

 

But we don't hang on to it, we allow ourselves to be pulled back into worldly concerns. We forget, or push aside, the miraculous in favor of the mundane. Many of these very people who were astonished at how Jesus cured the deaf mute will later be calling for His crucifixion. They will not remember being astonished beyond measure at what He had done, but He will continue to do all things well for them, including dying on the Cross. That is what Jesus' love for us looks like. It is truly astonishing, breathtaking, and life-changing.
