Revelation 14:8-12. In the midst of Revelation's chaos, a second angel declares that Babylon is fallen, "she who made all nations drink the wine of her impure passion." And a third declares that anyone who has worshiped the beast and received his mark on the forehead or hand shall "drink the wine of God's wrath" and shall be tormented "for ever and ever" with no rest, with fire and brimstone, and "in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb." This, then, is a call to have "the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."
Babylon is a symbol of the enemy of God's people - it often literally was Israel's enemy in the Old Testament, and was the place where all manner of idolatry and sinfulness was not only going on, but from which such sinfulness spread or was imposed on other nations and peoples. The enemies of God not only engage in sin themselves (we are all sinners, but are not all his enemies), but they are unrepentant and sin with pride, leading others into sin. They "make nations drink the wine of [their] impure passion." They lead others into the torment described by the third angel. This is what makes them truly God's enemies, they act like Satan, not only fallen themselves, but insisting on bringing others with them.
So what nations today are acting like Babylon? Are we? I would argue yes, and that is why we are falling. We are imposing our twisted "virtues" on the people of our country and on other nations. For example, our foreign aid has been called a kind of "abortion imperialism." We have adopted very sinful ways and act and preach to others as though those ways are the right ways. We are leading others into very serious sin, and people are suffering miserably because of it. Families are breaking down, mental health is suffering, children are being mutilated, used as satisfaction for adult sexual interests, full term infants are being left to die screaming in agony, and all of this is fed by our worship of the false gods of "pride," women's "choice," and an intolerance bordering on hatred of traditional religious values in general.
I very much do think we are Babylon, we have made ourselves God's enemy, and we are suffering because of it.
