Psalm 50:19 "You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit".

 

Just this morning I was thinking about how my mouth can get me in trouble. There are so many warnings in the Bible about watching our tongues and keeping silent when that would be more prudent, yet it is so easy to forget these warnings in the midst of conversation! Judgment or slights against another that I may not even have fully realized I harbored can come forth in casual conversation and bring me up short. Even when I catch myself in these moments, I can sometimes attempt to justify my words based on the behavior of the one I just disparaged ("I shouldn't have said that, but she... ").

 

This was on my mind because I just did it the other day. I think God gave me this verse this morning to encourage me to keep a better watch over my words, and over the inner thoughts and feelings that might be causing the wrong ones to come forth when my guard is down.
