Samuel 22:7-16. This is part of a song of praise of David to God after God has delivered David from Saul and all his enemies. David says that in his distress he called upon God and God heard him. "Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations of the heavens trembled and quaked because he was angry. Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring fire from his mouth." God came down to earth on the wings of the wind with thick darkness under his feet,  and He made darkness all around him. From Him was the only brightness, coming forth as coals of fire. He sent forth arrows and lightning, scattering and routing David's enemies. "Then the channels of the sea were seen, the foundations of the world were laid bear, at the rebuke of the Lord."

This seems pretty intense, maybe even more than was necessary to defeat David's enemies! I mean, did the foundations of the earth actually have to be made bare? Couldn't God have just defeated Saul? Remember, though, that this is how David experienced this victory. Perhaps David, in trying to always do God's will and not seek the kingdom for himself, was given such wisdom and insight into how God was fighting for him behind the scenes that he really perceived it as God enveloping the world in darkness and breathing fire and smoke from his nostrils. In other words, David saw God's anger and justice because David was close to God, and David uses human terms to describe those things playing out as he saw them. Most likely, Saul did not see things this way, because Saul was not close to God at this point. So Saul probably saw earthly human defeat and suffering in his loss. Both David and Saul saw the same reality, but their individual relationships with God meant everything as to whether, or even if, they saw the spiritual reality that was going on in the background.

Right now, I am seeing much of the spiritual battle, and some of what God is doing, when He chooses to show me with insights and visions. But many I love do not see the spiritual side of things. They are still processing everything from a very earthly, human point of view. For that reason they cannot hear what I am trying to tell them when I warn them that God is issuing "devouring fire from His mouth." He definitely is right now! But they are so anesthetized by the image of "nice-Jesus" and phrases like "love is love" that they cannot accept that God is very angry right now and what we are all feeling are the effects of that anger. I just have to keep praying that everyone comes to see the light before it is too late!
