Jeremiah 33:23-26. God tells Jeremiah that he hears the people saying that God must have rejected the houses of Israel and Judah, the houses of his chosen people, because they are no longer a nation. But God says "If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the ordinances of heaven and earth, then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David .... For I will restore their fortunes, and will have mercy upon them."

In other words, God is saying that his covenants are unbreakable. Just as day and night are governed by his covenants, just as the heavens themselves continue in their eternal dance, all because of his promises, so will his promise to Israel and Judah be. There is no way it will ever be broken - he will restore their fortunes and he will raise up one of David's descendants to rule.

We have to remember this - God always keeps his promises. They are unbreakable, because his Word creates reality - just like the universe and night and day. Once he speaks something, it becomes what is. God is "to be" and his Word is what is. So when he made a covenant with his people it actually became reality - there would be a Savior.

It is just that we have to live the story first, we have to get there individually and as a people, and that is hard. We have to struggle and we often don't see the end of the struggle. But God does, and he knows what is best at all times! His plan is the only way it can be, because he is. This is why Jesus tells us so often to "Be not afraid." There is nothing to fear, even hardship, even death, it is all provided for in his plan, which is all good. He will restore our fortunes and have mercy upon us.
