Jeremiah 47:4 "...[T]he day ... is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the Lord is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor."
Many of my posts lately have concerned the ongoing battle with evil. When there is a pattern like this, I am pretty certain God is trying to tell me or remind me of something. I think He is reminding me that, even though the battering of the last five years appears to have abated somewhat, the battle is still raging. Perhaps it is raging even more fiercely, as the truth seems to be coming out in dribs and drabs, with tremendous resistance to each bit of it. (Actually, the truth was always fairly obvious, rather than “coming out”, perhaps it is better described as being acknowledged by many who refused to see it previously). Evil fights even harder when it is about to be exposed and defeated, and I feel like that is what is happening now, although it is happening behind the scenes (of my life, at least, for which I am grateful).
This reading today assures me that the day of evil's defeat is coming. It won't be a single earthly day of complete annihilation of evil and vindication of good, as satisfying as that might be, but it will happen. God is already in the process of destroying the Philistines. The struggle I sense beneath the surface is Him doing that.
God's time is not our time. When He says a day is coming, we have to remember that He means one of His days, which can be as long as He sees necessary. Sometime in the future, mankind will look back at this period of history and it will be clear that the "Philistines" of our time have either repented or been defeated. That is God's justice, and it never fails, although it does not always look like what we think it will, nor does it happen on our timeline.
