2 Maccabees 1:11-17. A short story praising God for delivering "judgment upon those who have behaved impiously." The army of Antiochus, a force that seems irresistible, makes a pit stop in Persia at the temple of Nanea. Antiochus claimed that he intended to get married and was going to take some of the temple treasures as a dowry. The priests of the temple welcomed Antiochus and a few of his trusted men into the temple, locked the doors behind them, and opened a secret door in the ceiling from which they stoned Antiochus and his men to death. They then dismembered them, cut off their heads, and threw them out to the people outside, the remaining army included. Thus, Antiochus was defeated without any fighting by the Jews.

This is how God arranges things, he sends us help from the most unexpected sources, he works in mysterious ways. There is no point in us worrying about seemingly insurmountable problems, like Antiochus's large army. God will take care of everything in his own way. Our job is to stay faithful, use our gifts for his purposes, prepare as best we can and as we feel called to do, and trust him. Sometimes we do have to fight. When we do, he will be with us.

We are facing many seemingly insurmountable problems today. We have to learn what battles are ours to fight. To do this, we must stay faithful and trust him, he will show us. Often, battles we think we have to fight are not ours to fight at all and God will take care of them in amazing ways!
