Isaiah 57:18 "I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and requite him with comfort, creating for his mourners the fruit of the lips."

I so needed to read this today! I have been struggling lately with weaknesses I thought I had overcome. I realized that I had not gotten past them the way I thought I had. I have been very much contending with God about this, asking Him why He was letting these feelings be stirred up again when they could easily lead me astray. But I came to understand that I have been relying on myself to make whatever progress I had made. I wasn't turning everything over to God and letting Him heal me, I was trying to heal myself through denial and avoidance, and convincing myself that was what He wanted me to do. It wasn't. He wants me, I now believe, to bring these weaknesses to Him and allow Him to heal me, to requite me with comfort.

Only God knows why He gave me these particular weaknesses, and only He knows how to use them to make me the person He intends me to be. He has seen the things I have done wrong, and the ways I have tried to fix myself. Maybe that effort on my part was necessary to get me to this point, but now He wants me to make me all better as only He can.

I had put ointment and Band-Aids over my wounds and put them out of my mind, thinking myself healed. God is taking off the Band-Aids, reminding me that the wounds could reopen at any time, and asking me to give them to Him to heal completely. He is so very good!
