Jeremiah 49:24-27. Damascus has become feeble, says the Lord. Panic seized her, she turned to flee, "anguish and sorrow have taken hold of her". The once joyful city is now forsaken. Therefore, her young men will fall in her squares, and her soldiers will be destroyed. The Lord will kindle a fire within the walls of Damascus and it shall devour her strongholds.

Living in a country (a world?) that has become feeble and panic-ridden, this really speaks to me! My once great and joyful country has allowed anguish and sorrow to take hold of her, at least many of her citizens have. Because of her panic and anguish, she has destroyed the hope of her youth, and her young are falling. I fear it is only a matter of time until her soldiers fall, as well. I fear that the fire has been kindled in her walls, that her strongholds are at risk of destruction. Perhaps I am wrong, perhaps it not too late for her to turn from her fear and the misdeeds of her panic and redeem herself. I pray for that!
