Habakkuk 3:14. "Thou didst pierce with thy shafts the head of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me, rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret."

 

Habakkuk is praising and thanking God for rising up against the wicked "for the salvation of thy people, for the salvation of thy anointed". (Habakkuk 3:13).

 

God gives us lots of time to repent and turn things around (He's giving us that time right now!), but when things get to the point beyond which His people cannot be saved, He acts. He "bestride[s] the earth in fury" and trample[s] the nations in anger" (Habakkuk 3:12). He "crush[es] the head of the wicked" and pierces his warriors with shafts (Habakkuk 3:13-14).

 

The wicked and his warriors are the forces of evil. When they have gained so great a hold over humanity that a point of no return is being reached, time is up, God will act. It will look quite upsetting and be very difficult to live through, but it is necessary if we are to have any chance at salvation.
