Wisdom 19:7 "The cloud was seen overshadowing the camp, and dry land emerging where water had stood before, an unhindered way out of the Red Sea, and a grassy plain out of the raging waters."
Moses led God's people to the Red Sea, to the encampment to which God directed him, knowing, because God told him, that they would be pursued by the enemy and "penned in" so that God could reveal His glory in saving them. (Exodus 14:1-4) Even so, in the moment, and especially to the people, the situation must have seemed hopeless. There was an uncrossable body of water before them and a murderous army behind, how could they possibly escape death? But Moses did not despair, lose trust, nor try to come up with his own solution. He simply prayed, and God performed a mighty miracle to save His people.
There are times we feel that we are in similar impossible situations. Maybe not as dire, but situations that seem like there is no good option, or we have to try to think of a way out on our own, maybe by doing something or compromising on something we know to be wrong. That is never the right answer. It does not mean that God will not forgive us or help us if we've made such a misstep, but it does mean we will suffer more than we need to, more than we would if we had simply trusted. If Moses had tried leading the people away from the Red Sea, fleeing Pharaoh's army, they would certainly have suffered many casualties. God probably would have saved them eventually anyway, but not before many lives were lost. Moses was the right man for the job specifically because he knew not to try to solve the problem on his own, he just trusted and let God solve it, in a completely unexpected way, a way unmatchable by human ability.
So when we find ourselves tempted to compromise on what we know God wants us to do, or on basic, unalterable truths, because we think we can't win otherwise, we should take a lesson from Moses. We should remember that God will always provide a path for the righteous - an unhindered way out of the sea of our confusion. We might not see it now, but when the time is right, we will, and we will be so glad we waited for it.
