2 Chronicles 2:1-4. I have had these verses before in the context of a longer reading. In just these four verses we learn that Solomon, the new King of Israel, "purposed to build a temple for the name of the Lord." He assigned 70,000 men to quarry the stone, and 600 to oversee them. He wrote to Huram, the king of Tyre, asking him for the best cedar, and he explained to Huram what the temple will be like. It will be for the burning of incense and sweet oil before the Lord; it will have the continual offering of the showbread; it will have burnt offerings mornings and evenings and on the Sabbaths, and new moons, and appointed feasts.

Solomon is fired up! He has that zeal we often get when beginning a new, inspired project (and his project is the most inspired of all)! I love this feeling, it fills me with such determination and joy. It is a sure sign you are doing God's will! And Solomon is not ashamed of his joy and zeal, and he's not ashamed of his Lord - he gushes to the king of Tyre about what the temple will be like and how it will all be in service of the Lord! He is so consumed with his purpose, he doesn't even think that maybe the king of Tyre, who is not a Jew, would not really need or want the details. Solomon is evangelizing, as I said before. And he doesn't even realize he is.

This is the childlike faith that Jesus tells us we to have - when we let him fill us with his love and surrender ourselves to his will, there is no room for embarrassment or second-guessing ourselves - we just say what we are feeling, because what we are feeling is true, and this spreads joy and the love of God (in later verses, we learn how happy Solomon made Huram, the king of Tyre, who realized that Solomon was truly worshiping God).

When I am filled with doubt and second-guessing myself, I am not fully surrendered to the Lord. Whatever the thing is that I am concerned about, I should just turn it over to God and stop thinking about it - go about my day and let him work his will in my life. He will show me the way, and I will feel the certainty and joy that Solomon does when I let God take over.
