2 Kings 11:4-8. The priest Jehoiada sends for the captains of the of the Carites and the guards. He has them come to the house of the Lord where he gives them strict instructions to protect the only surviving son of the king, who has been raised in hiding for seven years. Jehoiada commands that two divisions of guards shall surround and protect the king's son at all times - "each with his weapons in his hand; and whoever approaches the ranks is to be slain."

The king's son here is seven-year-old Joash who was stolen away and raised by his aunt on the day his grandmother went on a murderous rampage killing the entire royal family, including all of Joash's brothers. Joash is rightfully the next king, but his grandmother, Athaliah,  is still acting as queen since the death of her son, who had been a very bad king. Athaliah, likewise, is a very bad queen. So the priest Jehoiada plans to anoint Joash king, as he rightfully is, but he knows that Athaliah and any who sympathize with her will try to kill Joash. So he houses Joash in the house of the Lord and surrounds him with guards ready to kill anyone who approaches.

This is how God protects all of us in our missions. We all have a mission, obviously not to be king of Israel, but a mission nonetheless. No matter how small it is, how minor the thing that God is asking us to do seems to us, when we are doing it because it is what God wants from us, he will protect us just like these guards protected Joash. Nothing will be able to get to us. If we could only see the army of angelic guards protecting us as we carry out our duties, we would be so amazed and so heartened.

So discern your mission, and do it with courage. No matter the odds against you, if you are fighting for God and what he wants you to do, you are very well protected.
