Jeremiah 20:16. "Let that man be like the cities which the Lord overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon."
Jeremiah is talking about the man who brought news of his birth to his father. I think it is fairly obvious that he does not really mean this curse to fall on that man, Jeremiah is just ranting in his misery.
I find it so comforting, in a strange way, that this is in the Bible. God loved Jeremiah, and Jeremiah was doing God's will, but it was so very hard and unrewarding for Jeremiah. He suffered terribly, and his vindication was the fall of Jerusalem, not something he wanted at all to see happen! (This reminds me of those of us who were suspicious of the COVID vaccines, tried to warn people, and were mocked and ostracized. We did not want to be right, I prayed all the time for the vaccine to be the miracle answer that everyone seemed to think it was, but we were right, and our vindication is vaccine injury, death, and misery, not at all what we wanted to see for our fellow man.)
So of course Jeremiah needed to vent, and God allowed him to, and even allowed that venting to make it into the Bible. This is a gift to us from God. It shows us that God understands our frustration, and that even His holy ones are permitted to rant and rave sometimes. God will not take our words seriously in those moments, although we must be careful not never to turn on God Himself in these times - that would be very wrong, indeed.
