Psalm 68:28 "Summon thy might, O God; show thy strength, O God, thou who has wrought for us."
This morning's Rosary in a Year podcast (Ep. 176, Jesus is in the Boat) focused on Jesus sleeping in the boat during the storm. Father Mark-Mary pointed out that the apostles had reason to be afraid, but the manner in which they woke Jesus and implored His help showed a lack of trust in Him. They woke Him by asking "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?" (Mark 4:38), rather than asking Him to summon the might they knew He had.
Jesus always cares about us. If it seems He is sleeping through our storms (and it sometimes does), we should never think that means He's not aware of them, or not loving us through them. The proper way to "wake" Him is to is with a prayer like this Psalm verse, one that shows we trust in His might, and requests that He summon it on our behalf.
God knows when to quiet the storm, so we might not be answered immediately when we ask Him to summon His might. But praying this way shows that we trust Him, that we know He loves us, and that we understand He is the Creator, with complete control over the creation He has wrought for us.
