2 John 1:4 "I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children following the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father."

John is writing to a particular "elect lady and her children" (2 John 1:1), but as I read this I am thinking of him as writing to the whole Church. We have seen such a tremendous decline in people practicing their faith. Generations of children, my own included, have walked away from the Church, some following other religions, many having no religious affiliation whatsoever, the so-called "nones". My own children have done this, and I see how it leads to their confusion and unhappiness, and how it leaves them vulnerable to the false religions that are all around us, even if they don't realize that's what they are.

At the same time, conversions or reversions among the young are increasing. God is working as only He knows how; He is rebuilding His Church steadily and in accordance with His plan. It is like Jeremiah's potter, God corrects our imperfections by reworking the clay. The Church herself is being remolded, reformed. When we see the younger generations coming back and being so faithful, we can't help but rejoice greatly, as John did, to see them following the truth. It should give us great hope for the Church and for our children. No matter how far they have strayed, God knows how to call them home.
