Psalm 131:3 "O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and for evermore."
This ending line of a very short psalm is preceded by "O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a child quieted at his mother's breast; like a child that is quieted is my soul." (Psalm 131:1-2)
Sometimes we're just not feeling the connection with God, our hearts don't feel lifted, we don't want to raise our eyes too high. Sometimes thinking about the things that seem too great and marvelous for us is just too much, too unrelated to the drudgery or sadness we are feeling, and we just can't do it. Even then, though, we can achieve the peace of trust, like a child trusting in the care of his mother. All we have to do is calm and quiet our soul, let it rest in His love.
God has a plan of love and is carrying it out. He is there even when we don't feel Him and can't lift our eyes up too high. He is the only thing we can and should truly count on, His steadfast love will never fail. And so we hope in the Lord, from this time forth and forever more, and we are at peace.
